One of the key features in OS X Yosemite and iOS8 is Continuity.

Continuity allows easy handoffs of features between your iPhone, iPad, MacBook, iMac or Mac Pro. Answer a phone call or text message on your laptop. Even if you don’t have wi-fi, you can easily create a wi-fi network from an instantly created hotspot from your phone.

This has always seemed like a somewhat handy feature, but a bit quirky. Sure I guess I’ll answer a call on my computer rather than pulling out my phone?

However, with Apple’s keynote mere hours away, and iWatch rumors at a boiling point, I think it makes a lot more sense to think of Continuity in terms of a new wearable device from Apple.

If you ever wanted a Dick Tracy watch, this would probably be a good way to make one. Battery life would be critical for a small wearable device, so putting a mobile chip on such a device would quickly drain a battery. However with an instantly created hotspot, a phone call or text message could be much more easily shunted off to a wrist-wearable device.
